Aqua Medic is launching a new line of heaters. These do not use traditional heating technology but instead operate on infrared. While this technology is not new either, Aqua Medic notes that this would be the first time it has been used in an aquarium.
The main advantage is that its efficiency is about 30% higher than that of conventional heating elements. The infrared radiation is transferred to the water through the element’s ceramic material.
The only drawback is that it doesn’t come with a built-in thermostat. Therefore, a separate temperature controller will always be required. Aqua Medic (naturally) recommends the T Controller Twin 2.0.
Aqua Medic Ceramic Infrared Heaters are currently available in five models: 100 watts, 300 watts, 500 watts, 800 watts, and 1,000 watts. These are suitable for aquariums ranging from 100 to 3,000 liters. Prices range from 44.50 EUR to 109 EUR for the largest model.
