Reef Factory, the out-of-business Polish company, is getting a second life. Italian Gian Luca Ciotti has informed Danireef that he is the new owner—“for 100 percent.” This means that Reef Factory will be making a fresh start, albeit a slightly delayed one.
Gian Luca Ciotti is an entrepreneur, pilot, and passionate aquarist. The fact that he is taking over Reef Factory isn’t entirely a surprise. According to his own account, he covered Reef Factory’s server costs in the months following the bankruptcy announcement. Thanks to that, the servers and equipment kept running.
Although there is still a great deal of uncertainty surrounding the new Reef Factory and the company’s structure, it seems certain that the servers will continue to operate. Ciotti also owns the brand name, which means that new products under the Reef Factory umbrella are a possibility.
It remains to be seen whether Reef Factory will become a lasting success story this time around. The aquarium market has changed significantly in the meantime. While Reef Factory helped elevate the ‘smart’ capabilities of the aquarium, AI is now ‘the next big thing’. Can Ciotti reinvent Reef Factory?
