Quality Marine announces that, effective immediately, the company is now offering its own farm-raised Peacekeeper Maroon Clownfish (Amphiprion biaculeatus). This is the first time these fish have been raised on a commercial scale.
Initial quantities are limited. Quality Marine is first offering medium-sized specimens to affiliated aquarium specialty stores and public aquariums. Because each animal exhibits individual variations in pattern, these first specimens are being offered individually in Quality Marine’s WYSIWYG section. The company has already announced that many more captive-bred specimens are on the way.
The clownfish are reared at QM Labs’ facilities in three phases: 1) the larval stage, during which the fish feed on rotifers; 2) the growth phase, during which the slightly larger fish are fed fresh artemia; 3) The transition phase, during which the fish learn to eat Nutramar Marine Complete pellets.

The name “Peacekeeper” originated from the hypothesis that captive breeding would mitigate the species’ typical territorial aggression. However, Quality Marine notes that, for now, these captive-bred specimens exhibit the same aggressive behavior as wild-caught ones. Behavioral changes over successive generations remain a possibility.
With the addition of the Peacekeeper Maroon, QM Labs’ selection now includes more than 63 bred species and variants. In addition to popular designer anemonefish such as the Storm, Longfin, and Snowflake varieties, Quality Marine’s breeding program continues to focus on challenging surgeonfish, including captive-bred Purple Surgeonfish (Zebrasoma xanthurum), Black Surgeonfish (Zebrasoma rostratum), and Gemmatum Surgeonfish (Zebrasoma gemmatum
